I have a bit of a back firing going on with my car when you go through the gears with your foot in it a bit.
If im driving it regularly, not accellerating hard, it doesnt do it much at all..
what would cause this?

Funny you should mention faulty wires.. the other day I had a wire come off a plug! thought the car sprung an oil leak as it was knocking so bad (valve-train noise) when we left the shopping mart we pulled into-- i could just feel a total loss of power/ bad feeling..
Ill check all of the wires tomorrow.. maybe there is another that is barely on..

If those fail check the mass air.

I almost had that same problem.
At WOT, the car would feel like it was hitting a rev limiter at 5,200-5,500 rmp's.
I took it to a guy i knew at pep boys, He told me to take off the mass air meter, I did, he hit it with some carb cleaner because those 2 little wire thingy's were dirty. It took care of the problem as of right now.
I was not getting any backfiring thou.

Backfire out the exhaust means there is unburnt fuel in the exhaust. This usually means one of two things:
- The mixture is too rich (MAF, BAP, ACT, ECT)
- The mixture is correct, but it's not being completely burned (ignition components, timing, etc)
Ignition could be breaking up at higher rpms if the plugs, wires, cap/rotor are all older...
