R Rated, 93 Cobra R goes on a diet.

Post by drkhrse »

Well I finally got around to posting what I have been up to. Some of you know I have been working at building up a new motor for my 93 Cobra R for autocross/open track racing. Well once the original engine and transmission were removed I pulled the front K-member. In it’s place I have a new maximum motorsports tubular one (thanks Aaron) with all the race goodies, tubular control arms, coil over conversion, MM caster camber plates, MM steering shaft, rack bushings, MM front sway bar (got backordered, on soon), and MM bump steer kit (thanks Mark @ On-Track Performance!!). The front suspension is almost all back together. The coil over conversion sure is nice, my kudos goes out to the guys at Maximum Motorsports, their parts fit right the first try! Anyway here are a few pics, let the “why did you do that to a real R” begin…… 8)

Cool build. What are you plans for the new motor/trans?

Be sure to save all those factory R parts...

I acquired a 347short block and am building it up with 185 Comp port AFR heads, Edelbrock RPM II intake, and a bunch of other goodies. Shooting for ~350-400 rwhp. For the trans I used the T5 from the black 93 cobra I have and had it rebuilt using the Gforce kit. Good to ~650 ft-lb or torque. I have the same trans in my Teal car and love it.

No worries, All the original 93R parts are nicely stored in totes and on a pallet, for the next owner.

Nice man, sounds beautiful

...although one thing. Being this is a cobra, and especially a Cobra R, if I were you, I would use a 93 cobra intake. Buy an aftermarket one, have it ported to all hell. It may make a couple less HP, but would really complete the look.

I know exactly what you are saying, and I have a trick up my sleeve on that too!! Wait to see the pics after I get it done.

latest on the R:

I got the rear coilovers set up and installed. I forgot to take a pic of them on the car, get that this weekend. The new mill is almost complete. It should be ready this weekend as well, just waiting on a few more parts. I'll list out it's specs later.

Coil over ?

Post by #2098 »

Are you using MM for both the front and the back? I would like to improve the handling of my car and am not sure which way to go.

MM on the front. The rear is custom from the previous owner. I actually reverse engineered it so I can make more. The springs are all new hypercoils.

Wow. Wholly crap! That makes me cringe. I'm nervous under my car on jack stands. You have it on a lift, on two hydraulic jacks, on two chuncks of 2x4. I can't even look at that without getting nervous, I don't see how you can get under it.

LOL, the bottle jacks are only holding the k-member while I removed it. If you look really close on the left side of the pic you can see the edge of the pneumatic jack holding the car up.
