Flat Black Paint Job?
Guys,
I am going to have to get a new paint job on my Cobra pretty soon. I bought this car to restore it the best way I can. It has a lot of oxidization and the clear is peeling...not to mention I can see the yellow coming through on the fiberglass parts.
Now, I am debating what to do with the paint. It will be repainted black, that is for sure. Question is should I have it painted back to the stock color or go with a flat black? I think flat black looks pretty cool on some vehicles, but haven't seen it on a 93 Cobra and I have not found anything that shows how to care for it to keep it looking good (other than on ricer forums where the paint job was done via spray can from WalMart). What are your opinions? I am really leaning to just restore back to stock black, but I want to see what others think.
Anyone have any pics of any Fox Mustangs painted flat black?

I would suggest stock black. I know where you are getting at with the flat and I agree it looks cool on certain cars but to me the "lines" on the Cobra dont support it if you know what I mean. 67 Charger, 72 Chevelle etc I think it would look real slick, for some reason to me it would make the Cobra look like that broke down GT you see in someones front yard on the back roads.

I was just looking through some pics and found a few Fox Mustangs with flat black. Either the paint jobs are Wal Mart spray can bad or the Fox is just not a good candidate for the flat back. Looks kind of terrible to me. These pics have helped me make up my mind...

I've seen the rattle can method on a few Fox cars in my area, and it's just not that appealing IMO. They are just too new a car to go for that "rat rod" look as far as I'm concerned.
If you want something a bit different, go with an actual black. The Ford OEM color is more of brown/black if you put it next to a jet black car.

I wouldn't do the flat black either, especially if you do you have to pay the paint shop to remove it. The paint shop would rather have the original paint areas to work with other then the flat black painted over the original paint. If it is just sprayed on the original paint and they paint over it, may cause issues or the new paint job to flake, bubble, or peel.

Then, you can save up for a nice factory type paint job, and when you get tired of how trendy and stupid it looks, you can simply peel it off by hand and have it done right.
