93 cobra exhaust
was the exhaust that was used on the 93 cobras unique? or the same as the 93 Mustang LXs? as far as H-pipe, mufflers, size, etc.
thanks
thanks
Re: 93 cobra exhaust
The headers, cats and H-pipe were the same on all V8 Mustangs in '93. The Cobra mufflers were less restrictive than the GT/LX mufflers and the Cobra tailpipes had a slight "kick" on the end to clear the Cobra-specific rear bumper. The Cobra mufflers and tailpipes were manufactured as single pieces - one for the right and one for the left.

I think same pipes, the hangers are longer.
Re: 93 cobra exhaust
Not true. As the Cobra bumper with cut-outs is different from the LX bumper, the Cobra tailpipes were configured differently than LX tailpipes to properly clear the unique Cobra rear bumper. LX tailpipes are not quite long enough to extend past the Cobra bumper cut-outs like the factory Cobra pipes.casper wrote: I think same pipes, the hangers are longer.

Re: 93 cobra exhaust
No Z's wrong the only difference in the Cobra tailpipes are the welded on hangers are longer. The pipes them self are the same as LX. I have had both side by side and that is the only difference.

Speed is correct, I have an LX set, and a Cobra set sitting side by side in my Garage, they are the exact same length, only the hanger is longer.
Re: 93 cobra exhaust
Well it looks like we have another Mustang mystery fellas. In addition to the "kick" in the Cobra tailpipes I described above, numerous Ford reference sources I've checked also mention that the Cobra tailpipes were recontoured for tire clearance. In addition, aftermarket exhausts from Flowmaster, SLP, MAC, Magnaflow, etc. designed as direct replacement for stock LX pipes do not extend the same distance past the cut-outs in the Cobra bumper as stock Cobra pipes.

I don't know, Window Sticker Guy. You also thought "5.0L EFI HO V-8 ENGINE" was the proper thing to put on the repros instead of "5.0L SUPER HIGH PERF V-8". Maybe the LX and Cobra pipes are different?93Cobra#2771 wrote:x3 - same experience as wellaaronlstiles wrote:Speed is correct, I have an LX set, and a Cobra set sitting side by side in my Garage, they are the exact same length, only the hanger is longer.

Re: 93 cobra exhaust
There's a difference between a typo and "thinking" something. The window sticker was a typo after I rebuilt a template. I had a few slip through before I found the template was wrong. The template has been fixed. Not quite sure why you thought a personal attack was in order, but hey, it's the internet.Z282SLO wrote:I don't know, Window Sticker Guy. I have had them side by side (over ten years ago). Two others have had them side by side. Have you?
Sometimes those "numerous sources" can all be quoted from the same source. Quoted enough times, it can then be construed as fact. Ever seen a 93 Cobra with that optional super audio system (can't remember their exact terminology for it) that was in the brochure? Me neither. How about our friend with the 92 Cobra vert? Do a search and you'll find references to it all over the net. In ten years, people will believe that car is the real deal unless they really research deeply.
So, who are we to believe - the official documentation that is out there, or people that have them side by side in their garage? I, for one, am going to go with Aaron and Speedfreek, as well as my own recollection from in the day. Aaron and speed have probably touched more of these cars than most of us on this forum put together. I have only been involved in putting exhaust/repairing four 93 Cobras, so I am a relative rookie with them. The last one I had apart was somewhere around 99 or so.
Everyone else is free to choose what they think, of course.

Re: 93 cobra exhaust
Yeah, I have read a lot of articles , where the author didn't know what they talking about.
Re: 93 cobra exhaust
First, was just poking a little fun at you (notice the smilie?). Clearly that did not go over well if you thought it was a personal attack. My apologies.93Cobra#2771 wrote: There's a difference between a typo and "thinking" something. The window sticker was a typo after I rebuilt a template. Second, your point about documentation sometimes being incorrect is well taken, and I am not doubting your recollection or what Aaron and Speed posted. If it makes you feel any better, I've never had an LX exhaust and Cobra exhaust side-by-side in my garage. That being said, the short answer to the original poster's question is that the LX exhaust and Cobra exhaust are not the same.
One other thing, are you sure the 92 Cobra convertible with the Super Sound System is not real?
