This is the correct one

Some say this one is correct as well, but mostly it's seen in 93 GT and LXs. Also the one used in 93 said "reverse" rather than "Side 1-2"

My car came with the "Original" in a box. It looks like the one that has the REW and FF buttons. not the one that says side1-2. Now I know it IS the original radio. thanks guys

Not sure Ive had a low mile low production one with the Rev and FF buttons sticking out but DO NOT say side 1-2.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this maybe there is an original owner out there?

This has been debated on other threads.
Stiles says radio 1 always.
Kevin says radio 2 sometimes; radio 1 sometimes.

I have the first one in my cobra and the second one in my GT.

yes i have the second in more than 1 cobra and 1 of them is all original with a owner who is over 70 , i asked him and he said he never changed it. ill pull it out and get a pic of the part number and connectoers, it is still a premium stereo that uses the amp. not the base unit. and ask anyone who has work on an assymbly line , they will stik whater part they have on a car as a substitute if needed or based on different suppliers.

Here are a few photo's of my factory installed cassette player. Back when these cars were new, I don't remember ever seeing any that had the other style cassette player. That doesn't mean it didn't happen, but I think it is less likely.

Here is the same radio I have in my 1993 GT, with the correct "REV" "ERSE" text under the "<<" and ">>".

1993 Cobra is right, I have been at the plant many times during the fox body build. if a particular part was not available on the assembly line at that moment, not always but sometimes a substitution was installed in its place. Usually you would see this on trim peices such as a chrome antenna and base that was typically used on LX models that I have seen on GTs.. I have also seen miss matched door panels as well. If a 93 Cobra was ordered as a caseette stereo, and if that particular model for whatever reason was not available for the installer, I could understand how a few LX or GTs cassette stereos were installed until the Cobra stereos returned to the assebly line.

Great info thanks for chiming in- guess it makes an original cobra with a GT/LX one a little more rare
