Door Lock Actuators

Post by 1993TealSnake »

I recently had new aftermarket door lock actuators put in, but neither one works. I can still turn both locks with the key. Before I had them put in, the passenger door lock worked with the switch and the driver side didn't. I could tell the motors were going out so i just replaced them then this happens. I believe all the fuses are good. Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with the actuators.

The obvious check is the one stated above.

However, if that checks out, then check your power seat and see if that still works. My car had a short underneath which caused the power seat, door locks, and anything else which has 12 volts dedicated to short out. Another symptom of this is the relay on the Starter Solenoid. It gets crasy hot!

That's good to know cuz my driver side actuator is not working, haven't thought about checking the fuses, which one is it? My fuse box is missing the cover which I'm guessing shows which fuse is what? And I replaced my solenoid last year, so it can't be that can it? :help:

If its just one side, then odds are its is a bad actuator. When its both sides, that can be a symptom of a bigger issue. (Unless they both went out over time)

Since he mentioned that he replaced both and they are still not working. I'm suspecting a bigger issue.

My drive went bad and I pulled it. Never used it any how. No keyless entry.
By the way did they come with keyless? Found part of alarms under the hood years ago.
Guy I bought from said it was stock. But he said it had never been wrecked too.
Is fender bender and wreck the same?

Keyless entry was not an option on these Cobras. Any alarm parts you find are aftermarket.

If you have your 93 Mustang Owner's Manual, there's a section on the fuses, fuse links and circuit breakers that provides lots of useful info (pp. 264-272), including showing you which fuse is what. Good luck.

If you do have keyless entry and remote, its not necessarily aftermarket, Ford sold an accerorry kit and some dealers added them to new cars.

Does anyone have a favorite vendor for the actuators? I need to replace my passenger side and don't really want to have to do it twice.
I finally have one!

National Parts Depot sells original Motorcraft actuators....but they're crazy expensive when compared to just about any other actuator available. $305 a piece.

Ya get what ya pay for? I dunno, but I do prefer to use Ford/Motorcraft parts when I can.

Ya trust me, I'm all for Ford Motorcraft parts but at $300+ a piece for actuators is too steep for me so hopefully LMR won't let me down, they haven't so far
