Paint correction and pictures.

Post by Goose17 »

I spent a good chunk of the last 3 days correcting/polishing the paint on my 93. Since the car only has 11,000 miles, the paint wasn't too terribly bad, but it still had some significant water spots from sitting outside at some point. It also had some scratches and swirl marks from years and years of washing/use.

I used my Griot's 6" and 3" dual action (random orbital) polishers starting with a 3000 grit sandpaper pad and working to the right through the products below:

Not all of the water spots were removed since I didn't want to risk burning through the clear, but the paint looks much better:

I'm happy with the end results, but it was a lot of work. That rear wing might be iconic to the 93, but it's not much fun to polish on/around/under!

I wasn't keeping track of the hours, but many. I worked on it off and on, balancing family time and other commitments for the better part of 3 days. The big panel areas like the hood, roof and doors went fairly quickly since I could use the 6" polisher. All the smaller areas, to include the mother-lovin dad-nammit rear wing took a lot of time with the 3" polisher as well as manual effort.

I'm no detailing expert, but I did my 04 Mystichrome Terminator vert and learned what works for me and what doesn't. I found that anything more aggressive than 3000 grit leaves good scratches that then need correcting. That's why I started with 3000 grit on the 93.

I'm happy with the results and thankful I didn't burn through the clear anywhere.

Great job, that looks great. I find for major overhauls, it easier just to take the wing off.
