Dash replacement

Post by blacksvt »

My car has 3 holes drilled in the dash from a tack and guage kit. I have access to a 90 7 up parts car. Can I use that dash and spray it grey. Looks like the factory dash was molded black and then sprayed, Is that correct. Rest of my parts are good, front pad vents etc so I was hoping to pull dash and paint it and install or should I hold out for a factory opal dash. My car is a high mileage driver so Im not real worried about it being perfect.

87-93 dash's are basically the same. There are some differences from 87-93 when it comes to the lower dash. On 87 (not sure when they changed them) have warning light cluster on lower dash next to the steering wheel, and when air bags were added to the steering wheel. However the tops are the same. So a little paint and should work just fine.

If you are ok with dying it just use a little filler in the holes and use a scotch brite pad and touch to it to give the textured look then just dye the section that the holes are at. I've done several over the years like that and you cant tell it. You will have to work with it to get it perfect but its pretty easy.

You will be ok with the 1990 dash; 1987-1989 dashes are the same because of the non-airbag steering column....
1990-1993 dashes are designed differently because of the air bag feature....
