Wheel question

Post by KS93Cobra »

just picked up what I thought to be two 93 cobra wheels. After I got them home and took a closer look there is some thing very strange about them. Here’s what correct 17x7.5 has FORD casting marks on the back, 4-lug, same offset ect…When I looked at the casting number, the first part read E8S then the hole for the stud was drilled over the rest of the casting. Then I noticed two ink stampings that read E8SC1007EAMO. I compared that to another 93 cobra wheel, which has the casting F3ZC1007BAH. The other strange thing is that both wheels do not have the directional casting RH with the arrow, they are right hand wheels.

The E8 is 1988 and I think the SC is for Thunderbird; the 1007 match the 93 casting number, so I’m guessing that has something to do with the style and or the size. If the SC is for Thunderbird, do I have a set of preproduction wheel for a Turbo Coupe that where never then put into production? That would make since as to why these are four lug and the offset is the same as a 93 cobra.

Any thoughts?

Wow,

And after the red floor mats I thought I'd seen everything. I wonder if the Cobra wheel was originally designed for the '88 Tbird turbo coupe... If that is the case, these cars are more of a factory parts bin effort than we thought they were. Note also the reliefs in the casting for a five lug configuration.

Someone should start a mini-museum for weird '93 Cobra stuff, like these wheels, the prototype black-framed fender snakes, the painted center caps, red floor mats, early flat-side upper intakes, gray valve covers with correct stickers, I'm sure there's more.

Red floor mats and prototype fender snakes...got any pics of those? I'm just getting back into the Mustang life, so I’ve never seen or heard of those oddball parts.

Does anyone know how to decode theses engineering numbers? If E8 is 88 and 1007 is the style...is MO the revision?

I did talk to a guy last week who told me that there were others like mine produced in 88, but most of them were 5-lug...anyone seen those?
