Got tranny problems

Post by OLLETT »

Ok guys I was wondering if anybody could help me with my problem. While at the track one weekend I damaged my transmission burning out backwards. I know Iknow, stupid. Well now my reverse is gone. All it does now is grind, forward gears ok. Does this require a total rebuild or can I replace the particular gear(s). There doesn't seem to be an out-right rebuild kit for our type of T5. Any suggestions about what you would do?

If you are going to pull the transmission out and disassemble it, you may as well do a full rebuild - new bearings, blocker rings, etc. It's really not that much more expensive.

Will the transmission go into 5th?

It goes into fifth. I just bypass third when I shift because I wasn't sure if reverse ran off of third. Is there a rebuild kit? I found out we have T-5Z transmissions that have considerable differences from the World class T-5.

5th and Reverse are on the same shift fork. Our cars have World Class T-5s, but they are 93 Cobra specific. You can order a standard World Class Rebuild kit from D&D Motorsports or Hanlon Motorsports, but also order a main shaft "pocket" bearing. Tell them you have a 93 Cobra and they'll know what you are talking about. This is all assuming you didn't destroy something inside the transmission, which is entirely possible.

The only difference between our transmissions and the T-5Z is the first gear ratio.

Good Luck

+1
I plan on doing a rebuild this winter also. I called Hanlon and those guys know exactly what you need. Highly recommend. I think they quoted me almost $300

D&D sell the Cobra kit for around $200 Bucks. Here is a link for you

Reverse is a Seperate gear all together, if you trans shifts nice just replace the reverse gear, and inspect the rest, My modo, Don't fix it if it isn't Broke.
