#2278 w/9K Miles - Black with Gray Leather

Good morning everyone,

After owning a 1989 Supercharged GT, and a 1989 GT Convertible (I was a fan of the tilt wheel), and a couple of Porsches I decided to come back to a Mustang.

After looking for quite a while, I found an unmolested 1993 Cobra, #2278, Black with Gray Leather and no subroof car. The car is pristine, and even has the original Goodyear tires on it although they are beginning to dry rot. My goal is to purchase a set of new wheels and tires, and to take the originals, spray some sort of oil on them, wrap them in plastic bags, and preserve them for a future sale.

That being said, I am kicking around what wheels to put on the car as I do not want to modify anything. My preference is the American Racing VN427 wheel, but they only come in 18"x8" and 18"x9.5". I was thinking of going with a staggered look, but I have no idea if a 9.5" wheel would fit in the rear. I know it all deals with the backspacing and offset (something that is not my specialty), but I am aware that the Cobra's axles are 3/4" longer than the regular GTs.

Thoughts? Advice?

Thanks,
Stephen

Welcome to the site, Stephen. Lots of good info and some laughs here. I replaced my original Cobra wheels with 17x7.5 '95 Cobra R style wheels (kept the original offset & 245/45ZR17 tire size). I'm also not a fan of the Goodyear Gatorbacks. I replaced them w/Nitto NT555 tires - much better traction & handling w/better treadwear as well. I'll leave it to other members that may have added larger wheels/tires to comment on that possibility.

Post some pics when you get the chance.

Here are some pics of it that I took with my cell phone last week after I washed it. Yes, I will be doing this one by hand which is more than my 944 Turbo S and Boxster S got!

Nice where did you find it?

Sorry for the long response time, but I found it on AutoTrader down in the Hampton, VA area. The guy I bought it from wanted to drive it, but said it was just too nice and was afraid of someone hitting it. I didn't initially buy that logic, but after having it for a few months I now understand. I am afraid of someone hitting it, or scratching it.

Therefore, and coupled with the fact that I had to resign from my job to take care of some family issues, I am kicking around the idea of selling it.

Any takers? I live in the Northern Virginia area just outside DC.

Thanks!

Stephen

I remember when the original owner listed this on hampton roads craigslist it is here on the forum. It was for sale for $20k, then the guy you had scooped it up for had it listed for $22k-23k....looks really nice.

Yeah, I saw it when the original owner had it, and when I made the call the guy I bought it from had just gotten it. Anyway, the rest is history. It is a great car, sits 100% indoors, has been driven less than 100 miles since October 2012, and the only thing it needs is to have the radio sent off for repair as there is an issue with the internal amp. It has 1 scratch on it that is right abive the drivers headlight.

I live in almost in the dead center of Loudoun county.

I hate to sell it, but I have decided to go in as a partner in the Water Tour business in a small community in North Carolina and need the money. That doesn't mean I am giving it away, but it will be on Ebay, Craigslist, and AutoTrader soon. If there is an enthusiast that will take care of it, I am all ears as I think long term the low mileage cars are a great investment.

Thanks!

Stephen

And the business I am investing in will allow me to take care of my family matters.....just didn't want to sound inconsistent. Just need to be geographically closer with a flexible schedule.

Thanks,
Stephen
