Tinted window thoughts....
Re: Tinted window thoughts....
Will the window tint mess up the rear defrost if the tint were to be taken off?

Re: Tinted window thoughts....
prob. it mostly will be messed up, because when you start cleaning the window after removing the tint.. the cleaning solvents F with the defroster. BUT MAYBE NOT...MJH wrote:Will the window tint mess up the rear defrost if the tint were to be taken off?

If you are very careful with removing the tint and making sure you do not scrape across any of the defroster elements on the glass, you should be fine. Most glass cleaners will not harm the defroster elements. It's when you scrape across the elements and break the electrical connections that you run into defroster problems.

Steam the crap out of the tint before you pull it off. Makes for a much cleaner job as it generally leaves much less sticky residue when steamed first. Then as the rest said just be careful and you should be fine.MJH wrote:Will the window tint mess up the rear defrost if the tint were to be taken off?

If you peel the tint off, then the leave the residue. Hit your local part store and buy some removal spray it works pretty good.

Re: Tinted window thoughts....
To remove the tint on the back glass soak the glass with window cleaner containing ammonia. Then place black plastic trash bags on the glass removing all the air bubbles. Then place the car in direct sun with the windows up for about a hour. It softens the glue from the heat. I did this on my cobra that had very old tint and it worked good for me.
Re: Tinted window thoughts....
I'm not removing tint, I mainly wanted to know because I want to tint my windows. The cobra is like a green house, the tint will keep it cooler. I wanted to make sure that if it had to be removed it wouldn't mess anything up.

Re: Tinted window thoughts....
I tinted my car when new, and I am happy I did. I used it as a daily driver for the first 100,000 or so, and here in So Cal, that would have meant interior damage without the tint. Since I had it tinted, always had the dash covered & also used seat covers, my interior is still in great shape. Even though it is a PITA, you can always remove the tint if you start showing the car or something. If it is going to see much sun, TINT! If it is a garage queen, then maybe not. The most important consideration IMHO is protection.

All true and good advice, but the real reason to tint is that it is much cooler looking as well!

No doubt! Keeps you more comfortable when running the roads, too. With cars over 20 years old that are increasing in value the protection factor is something I cannot ignore... Plus it pisses off (really more like scares the piss out of) some cops as well.. Poor revenue generating ticket givers can't see inside, oh what a horror!Z282SLO wrote:^^^

Re: Tinted window thoughts....
When I first owned 3928 there was no tint. 15 years later it showed up with tint. Since it now has tint I will not remove it, because I feel that is part of her history. However in MD its illegal to limo tint on passenger cars, so that history might change. But it looks really good and it was not done half assed! So it stays (for now)!
