Door Handles

Post by Doughrat19 »

Question, I'm in the process of replacing my door handles because my driver's side door handle was very faded. So the problem is I removed the old driver's side door handle and then realized the rivets that were supplied with the new handles doesn't fit in the rivet gun I got for this. It says it goes up to 3/16" 5mm but that still isn't large enough for the rivets that were supplied. Anyone know how big these are and where I can get a gun that will fit them?? I think I got the handles from LMR or FMR, I can't remember.

Thanks,

Matt

I have always used either one of these. The big stud rivets are pretty stout, so a dinky rivet gun won't cut it. Both are rather expensive for a one time use so maybe you have a buddy in a body shop that might have one. Any body shop would have one, you could probably throw them 20 bucks and they could pop them in for you i'm sure. If you were closer I would lend you mine. If you use the bid daddy, be careful because it could jump (kind like a recoil on a gun) when the rivet pops. The pneumatic is much easier and less chance of damaging your door, IMO. Good luck.

Thanks guys, big help! I just looked it up and there is a harbor freight in Braintree, MA which is pretty close to me. Looks like I'll be picking one up tomorrow. Thanks again.

make sure you hold it tight , so when the rivit stud breaks the gun dont jump and scratch the door.

Thanks 1993cobra, I bought the exact one in the link and it worked like a charm. It's nice to have matching door handles on my car now. The driver's side was really faded.

Thanks for the info…I picked up the rivet gun from harbor freight as well. Replaced my driver’s door handle this afternoon…piece of cake. The repo handles seem to stick out further than the OEM’s, but other than that they look and work great.

A little late on this, but if your original was in good condition other than faded, I'd have simply masked off around it and hit it with SEM trim paint...
