Meh, it's an acquired taste and appropriate for the time.

My first car was an 89' hatchback that had the red tweed variation, the top half of the dash, steering wheel, and such was black, at the time it was pretty common in the foxes. I've seen this color in person, old co-worker had it a white 90ish LX hatchback.
