What is best battery out there ?
I ve have two red top batteries. One in my 93 Cobra and one in my 2003 Mach 1. I ve had issues with both not wanting to start if they sit for any extended amount of time. I went out of town for about 2 1/2 weeks and returned and both the Mach and Cobra didnt start I had to jump them.
It seems they dont hold a very good charge.
However in my F250 I have the factory battery which is 4 years old at least easy maybe actually 5 years now that I think about it and my truck primary vehicle started right up?
I always heard optima were good batteries but I ve had nothing but problems with them. Is it possible I just have two bad batteries and have bad luck . The mach should 5.5 volts lol I put in on charger over night and it was at 8.8 I tried to jump it with jumper box and it wouldnt crank over.
Anways what batteries have you guys used at what has worked teh best? Maybe I just need to run my cars more but I really dont think Optima are all they are cracked up to be.

the yellow top batterys are there deep cycle and are ment to go dead and recharge with out damge...
you said it was 2 weeks since the car was run.. how long was it run for when it was run? sounds like your battery got damaged from sittting with a low charge.
ive had all sorts of junk no name batterys in my mustangs and they could sit months with out going dead. an optimun red top should be no different unless it never is getting fully charged or you have a draw from alams or something when the key is off

I just replaced my 99' F-150 for the first time about 4 or 5 months ago.......seriously. The truck just turned 70k miles on it, and it's been outside for most of it's life unfortunately. I had a FoMoCo battery in my 89' LX that lasted for 7 years.
Now my wifes 02' Envoy is on it's third battery with a 120k on it, garaged it's whole life. The 03' Impala just had it's battery changed for the first time due to the post corroding out of the battery itself......kinda weird.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is I don't put a lot of faith in the high dollar batteries for everyday use. I have had better luck with OEM stuff, as you can see. Can't really say why though.

Battery
I stick with Motorcraft Batteries, Red top or yellow top's arent worth a crap. My 95 Cobra had the original battery in it for 10 Years, Yep hard to bealive but true, I just picked up a 1 owner 03 Cobra it still has the original battery in it.
Stay with OEM, Just my opinion is all.

Re: Battery
The one in my 93 went bad from what I thought was lack of driving, so I bought a new one. I then killed that as well.aaronlstiles wrote:I stick with Motorcraft Batteries, Red top or yellow top's arent worth a crap. I then figured out my center dome light was burnt out(which I knew) but was turned on. That means that stupid little light in the hatch was on 24/7. No wonder I killed those batteries. On the second one, I still had my paperwork, so they replaced it for free.
