Mike S., I'll look at the rear again, I haven't caught that yet. He didn't have the rear bumper on it at one point, and just before I came he had it on, so it may be hiding something.
If I were in your shoes, the only thing I'd consider doing, assuming the option was there, would be to buy the car and every little piece he had to go with it and store it in a friends or family members garage or shop. Then you can work on the car during the summers and breaks during school. This will let you take your time and add funds as they become available.
Of course, this would mean you'd have to have a friend or family member who has a little extra space for the next 4 years.

And as I said before, I'd work on that asking price too. I highly doubt he has anyone as interested as you in the car.
