Things you wish ford would of done to the 93 cobra?

Post by teal_93 »

Just wanted to hear everyone thoughts.. I have a list myself...

1. five lug
2. lowered the car and added more suspension mods.
3. more performance mods, maybe a 351 instead of the 302.
4. bigger and better brakes
5. add cruise control.

those are just a few I would do off the top of my head..I think they should of pulled out all of the stops for this car... no doubt, I enjoy mine and I'm very proud of it... but somethings just could of been improved, so dont take this as a stab at the 93 cobra

From the top..

1. 351/lightning motor (IMO: Our car's would be more of value today with a 351)
2. Color combo of White/Blk
3. More wheel options

For the Cobra R

1. Exterior color option of Black.

Cobra R with black interior!

Agreed white/black - would be sick!

better suspension - more agressive stance.

I think factory blower would of been great, but I prefer a paxton over the vortech

and also, I think no front license plates should of been put on the cars.. that just ruins the front end of the car....

I totally agree on the cruise control. Other than that different gearing might have been nice, at least 3.55's if not 3.73's

My thoughts exactly, also a slight drop would have been nice.

Id also say, maybe a cowl hood. all mustangs had the same hood why not add on to the 93 cobra...... or how about a interior change. our interior match the Gt's. they never should of offered opal for the Gt's. and maybe brought back the t-tops.... just my thoughts some may disagree

Cruise, definitely. Vortechs were loud, ratchety sounding things back then, they would have never made factory muster. The Cobra was a remarkably balanced package for as much of a parts bin car that it was.

Back then? The S-Trim on my 89, and the spare kit I have in a box both disagree with the "back then" comment. :) To each their own, but that's the sweet sound of mustang horsepower. Back when I was a teen in the late 90s, everyone had fox bodies. We were all 16-18, and broke, so mods were limited. When some guy in his mid 20s rolled up, and you heard that vortech whining, you simply didn't even think about trying. You just knew he would kick your ass.

I don't think I could ever own a 5.0 without one now.

i think the vortech wouldnt be dependable enough for ford to sell to the average consumer and still provide warranty, they would have been replacing head gaskets, pistons, valves, belts, FMUs , and even complete engines all the time. But maybe on the R version it could have worked . On the gear ratio, Im sure they picked 3.08 for fuel economy, and everyone has their own prefference on gears and they are easy and cheap to change, so ford knew the gears would be changed anyway.
but yeah not really sure why the 351 wasnt available , since the lightning engine was there, at least make it an option in the R. or why a vert wasnt available?

Cruise for sure. Wish they would have done the 5-lug and Cobra brakes on all, not just the Rs.
