Re: Detail a/c compressor ?
To clean anything in engine bay of a 5.0 -I've always done the following:
Dampen engine bay with some water
Liberally spray Simple Green over engine (let soak throughly for 15 mins)
Rinse with water
Start engine and let it run 10-15 mins w/ hood shut (this will eliminate water residue)
After engine is dry, use a can of WD40 and lightly spray any aluminum/metal components
Start engine - this will burn off any residual WD40 (no, nothing will ignite)
I've never had an issue doing the above - ever. The WD40 helps with eliminating and reducing oxidation on metal surfaces, more so, bare aluminum metal. The metal will retain a factory look as well.
Everyone has a different way of doing things - the above works for me, has been since the mid 80's.
