WTB: 93 Cobra Grille insert retainer

Post by grabber »

Hi everyone - I have all the needed pieces to start the front end resto on Cobra # 4709 except for the fiberglass piece that retains the Cobra specific grill insert. I've managed to find all nos pieces for the front of the car with the exception of this one piece. If anyone has one for sale please shoot over a pm...I really want this car ready for the 45th anniversary show at Birmingham in April. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I can be reached via pm or at asusmilinbob@yahoo.com.

insert retainer

I was watching it on ebay...I figured 75 bucks tops...there's no way I'd pay that much for one though (is that the going rate these days?) or is the retainer the reason it brought so much dough (considering the other 2 pieces are repopped now).

groll insert

No one reproduces the retainer, Just the Grill it's self. That was cheap for the whole set up, I would have bought it but missed the end of the auction, I thought it was today.

Have any of you guys attempted to "retain" the grill insert with nuts or something else to hold it in place...seems like w/ all the repo grill inserts sold there must be another way than using the stock retainer? I could always add one down the road when I find one (I'm itchin to get this Cobra on the road! I just purchased a NOS grill and pony for 45 bones... not too shabby...but 175 OUCH. I'll post some pics of the resto once it really gets started. Should be a cool ride when done.

I was thinking 150 tops . But you should be able to make a simple braket from sheetmetal, it only needs to hold on each end not full lentgh like the original.

Sounds like a plan...I may call 50resto and ask how the repop one connects to the front bumper cover...Mine is a stock NOS bumper that hasnt been cut out yet for the insert...maybe I could semi modify it for now and change later after I find the correct retainer. I would still like to purchse one if anybody has one for sale at some point :) Thanks all.
