5 lug 93 wheels

Here is what I copied from the auction.

I apologize to everyone who was watching and/or bidding on these rims earlier this week. EBay pulled my ad because I used the “C” word for money without following it with the phrase “in person”.

You are bidding on one of only two sets of prototype 1993 Cobra R-Model rims made by Ford. From what I've been able to learn, when Ford started work on the R-Model, they took two sets of undrilled street Cobra rims and drilled them 5x4.5 to fit on the 5-lug Cobra R models. Problems arose when the 17x7.5 rims would not clear the PBR front brake calipers Ford decided to use. So, the 1994 Mustang GT rims were painted black and utilized instead. And the two sets of 93 Cobra rims were given to a Detriot area shop with close ties to Ford. Or they were pulled out of the dumpster by the shop, depending on the story. Anyway, a guy in MI got one set, I got the other. With some modifications, I used these as street rims on my PBR equipped street model Cobra (I had to install longer studs and use a 7/16" spacer to make it work).

I recently switched to 4 piston calipers and cannot safely use these rims. Instead of keeping them as a piece of SVT history, I am going to sell them. The rims carry all of the regular Ford markings and part numbers, and are date-stamped JAN 22 on the back. The rims are in very nice condition, but they do have some minor marring from having tires mounted and dismounted.

For you SVT junkies, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

We have had dozens of sets of these and sold them over the years thru our website and printed ads. KarKraft, to name another dealer, has had them available from time to time also. We presently have 10 or 12 of the wheels in stock and they surface at the Columbus SuperSwaps and Carlisle periodically. The fact is, these were originally slated for use on the Thunderbird SuperCoupe and Superior Wheel released a pile of them thru obsolescence drilled in different Ford car and light truck bolt patterns thru the mid '90s.
